Candlelight Vigil for Sam Nordquist
Join us in honoring the life of Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old trans man from Minnesota who was brutally tortured and killed in New York. As we mourn this tragic and senseless loss, we gather to remember Sam’s life, uplift his name, and stand in solidarity for trans people, especially trans men and trans people of color, across the country.
UPDATE: We recently learned about the loss of two more trans members of our beloved LGBTQIA+ community, Elisa Rae Shupe and Tahiry Broom. We want to lift up their names and memories during the vigil as well.
We invite community members, friends, and allies to come together for a candlelight vigil on:
- Monday, February 24, 2025 (the initial email announcement mistakenly said a different day of the week)
- 6:00 PM
- Pittsburgh Equality Center
(inside Fellowship Hall, First United Methodist Church, 5401 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA)
The vigil will include a moment of silence, reflections from community members, and space to grieve, support one another, and recommit to fighting for justice. Candles will be provided, and all are welcome.
Let us gather in remembrance, resilience, and love.
Note: Please RSVP below so we have a general idea about how many are attending, so we have enough candles. Thank you.
